My magazine uses many features that are used in music magazines worldwide; I have chosen to include these usual features because when the audience first looks at the front cover of the magazine the reader can be familiar with these features and can instantly see that this is a music magazine and not an ordinary mainstream magazine.
These usual features which I have included in my magazine are:
*A slogan that says that they are the best music magazine around
*Free music artists posters
*Exclusive interviews from new artists
*Naming the magazine relating to music
*Bright, attracting colours

However not only have I included these usual features but have also included features that you will not see in regular music magazine. This is because I do not want my magazine to be the same as all the other music magazine that is available to purchase, as I want my magazine to stand out from the rest.
*I have tried to accomplish this by creating my own features in my magazine such as:
*I have included games in the magazine so that the reader can also complete some puzzles once they have finished reading all the articles on the magazine.
*I have also created a page which includes a story which continues throughout all the magazines issues. The stories that are in the magazine are related to the life that the readers of the magazine are familiar with and this makes the reader are most likely to purchase or read this magazine and say than relate to the story topics. Also it is effective that the story continues onto the next issue so that the reader will buy the next issue so that they can read the next chapter to the story and so on.
*I created a fashion page that includes clothes that music artists wear and then show the audience how they can create the exact same look however more cheaper and nicer.

As my magazine is aimed at wide age audience, from 11 – 19 year olds and also for both sexes, I have represented this age group in the magazine in various ways.
As I already know that this age group is very interested in R&B and Hip Hop and all races enjoy this style of music I decided that creating a type of magazine in this genre will sell the most. I have also included artist that are recognizable to the majority of young people. These artists that are featured in the magazine are also teenagers themselves so the reader can connect with what the artists are talking about. Furthermore the price that I have made the magazine is relatively low-priced, this is due to the fact the teenagers are not working, and mostly live on a small allowance so therefore cannot afford magazines priced more then three pounds.

For my magazine I have tried to attract as many different types of audiences as possible, this is because this can increase profit sales and also I will get a large amount of feedback back from the readers about the magazine and this will help me understand what I should improve in my next issue. I tried to make the magazine attract as many readers as possible in many ways.
As this magazine is a unisex magazine meaning that both females and males can read this I have included topics in the magazine that both genders would find interesting. Such as on the front cover I have not used colours that you would normally find on a single sex magazine, such as if the magazine was a magazine aimed at females then I would create the magazine using colours such as pink, lilac and a lot of white. If the magazine was aimed at males then there would not be that many colours and the colour scheme would be quite dull. So in my magazine I have included colours that can relate to both males and females and have also included a strict colour scheme in which I would only use 3 main colours (orange, white and yellow) so that the magazine does not look over crowded.
I have included interviews from male artist and also female artist. This is because creating interviews only based on one gender could make the magazine biased and also rather boring as not only do both male and female readers want to look at interviews about the opposite but also some people would want to read interviews about the people who are the same gender so that they can associate with what the artists are talking about.
On the fashion page I included male clothes and also female clothes so that
I tried to find out as much information from the aimed target audiences about what they would like to see in a music magazine. So I created a questionnaire which included many different types of questions relating to making a magazine and what they would like to see on a music magazine. From the results I was given I included this information into my magazine which would hopefully attract as much readers as possible. I included features that I found out that the readers want in a magazine and also included my own features such as free XL posters, exclusive interviews and also fashion and puzzle pages.

I have done some research about what media institutes there are available, and which one would be the best choice to distribute my magazine. I came across the company called I.P.C. I thought that this company would be the best for me as I have found out that they distribute a wide variety of magazines and also different genres of magazines from golf magazines to home and garden ones. They also have dealt with very popular magazines such as Marie Clair and NME so letting I.P.C distribute my magazine would not be such a scare as Marie Clair and NME are very successful and are sold world wide.

I have learned a lot about creating a magazine, from fully understanding how to work certain Adobe programmes to taking the perfect photos for the magazine. To create the magazine I mostly used Adobe Illustrator. where I was able to use different tools. This includes learning to use text of different fonts and effects, shapes, paint filling, image resizing, designing a layout with different colour schemes and rotation. I also made use of Adobe Photoshop, in which I used this to modify different images; this programme also has a variety of tools which make altering the images easier. For example, the programme had the eraser and background eraser tool, image resizing, airbrushing and different image textures. An example of an image that I altered on Photoshop was on my front cover where I took away the white background to my main image (Miss Valentine) and changed it so that it was now black, using the background eraser was much easier and effective then having to use paint or any other substitute programme as it would take up more time and may not also show the same results. I also resized the image so that it could fit onto the page properly. I also used my digital camera to take pictures for my magazine, this is was very changeling as I had to take a wide range of pictures and then had to choose what images were most suitable I have learnt how to takes pictures on the camera and how to put them onto the computer using a USB; from setting up my blog I learnt how to post my work/images and lay it all out to look organised. From using these varieties of tools frequently, I was able to become more familiar with the programmes/materials and understand how to use the tools to my advantage.

There is a huge difference from creating the preliminary task to creating my music magazine. Unlike the preliminary task

Draft Of Titles

These are the different designs of what the title of the magazine could look like. As you can see at first I started with a simple, plain font with a plain white fill colour, this did not look very exiting and was not I wanted. I then started to change certain colours and fonts until I found a kind of base of what I want my title to look like. Once I found the font and colour I wanted my title to be I added a white line affect and increased the stroke weight on the white outline, until I made it exactly how I wanted it.

Anaylsis Of Article

When you first see the article you are attracted by the huge amount of different and bright colours. This makes the article look exiting and interesting to read so when the audience see this page they would like to continue to read it and find out what the article is about, whereas if the page was dull and looked boring this will not attract the reader to read it as much.
Normally when looking at an article straight away you have a slight idea of what music genre the article is based on without knowing what magazine it is or by looking at the front cover, however as this article has not got any band artist we have to try and guess from the various pictures on the article of what type of magazine this article is for which makes the reader want to read it more.

The language that is used in the article suggests that the target audience for this article is aimed at people aged 18+. This is because the topics that are being discussed in the article are related to adult activities such as clubbing, alcohol and bars, it will also be illegal if anyone younger then 18 are related to these topics.
There are certain words that are used constantly throughout the article that are inappropriate for young children to read such as ‘shit’.
The article starts with the phrase ‘Welcome to Rotterdam’s Sustainable dance club’ This is a smart idea that the writer did, as using the word ‘welcome’ shows that the article is welcoming you to read the article and be part of it.

The way the editor tried to bring enjoyment into the article is not only by the colours and pictures but also by the funky font that the title and the first letter of the article are written in. Using a groovy font makes the article look less boring and more exiting. However the editor uses simple font to write the rest of the article as it is simpler to read and looks less complicated.

The double page spread differs from most ordinary articles and there is not just two pages but three. The first page just contains the title, subheading and also a few pictures of what the article is going to be about. The second and third page contains the written information about the article; however they still contain images to make the article look more interesting.

The sort of tone that the magazine is using when addressing the reader is that the reader is a member of the in-crowd and understands the topics that are mentioned.

The article relates to the front cover in various ways such as the main colours on the front cover is the colour yellow and on the article the main image is also yellow. Another way in which the article relates to the front cover is that the main story line on the front cover is about parties and the article is also about party life.

Analysis Of Double Spread

Analysis Of Music Article

From first looking at the article you will be able to tell that the article belongs to a Hip-Hop genre magazine. This is because the artist that is featured on the article is a famous rapper named GZA and in this article GZA is talking about his Hip-Hop Music.
From reading the article I believe the age target for this magazine is aimed at people aged 16 – 24yrs old. This is because many people in this age categories will be familiar with his music and would be interested to read about him. I also think that the article is aimed at this age group because of what the artist is wearing. GZA is wearing a baggy white top, baggy trousers and branded sports trainers. These are items of clothing that many of the youths and young adults are wearing nowadays so for the artist to wear what many people in this age categories it shows that he is there age which means that the reader can relate to what he is saying.

The language that is used for the article also tells us which age category this article is aimed at. For example there are certain words that are mentioned quite a lot in just the article that would be inappropriate for young children to read such as ‘shit and f**k’ and also many people older then 24 would not want read such words as they might have young children and would not like to see there children reading articles that would contain swear words.
There are also certain words that reflect to the genre of music. For example in the Hip – Hop world there are certain ‘slang’ words that many people often say such as ‘he ain’t my boy’ meaning that he is not my friend. People who are familiar with Hip – Hop music will be able to understand what he is trying to say, this also gives a sort of relationship between GZA and the reader as some people might not understand what he is saying and if you do then there is a sort of connection between the artist and the reader.
The editor also tries to promote GZA by saying certain words about him such as ‘the best emcee’ and also ‘pure genius’. Using phrases like this not only makes the artist sound good but also the article as they have managed to get ‘the best emcee’ on their magazine and also have a interview with him.

The colours that are used in the article are very simple and also matched the items of clothing GZA is wearing. We get the white background because of the top the artist is wearing, we get the black writing because of his trousers and we get red writing because of the red on his trainers. Using simple colours also make the magazine seem childish and serious, as if the magazine used loads of bright and colourful colours then we would not take the interview serious.

The style of text is very plain and easy to read. The editor of the magazine was really smart and made all the good, interesting bits bigger and in a different colour compared to the other sections of the page. This is very effective as these sections are what the reader will see first and if they see eye catching phrases or interesting facts then the reader will want to read the whole interview.
The image that is used in the article, a picture of GZA, is presented to the audience through various ways. For example the item of clothing he is wearing is something that is many people who read the magazine are familiar of wearing. Also the way the artist is posing is a very typical pose that many males use when posing for a picture.

The double page interview is laid out so that the interview is spread on one page and the image of the artist is spread out on the second page. This is very useful as the picture has been made big enough that it can be used as a poster and also having the interview just on one page makes it look less boring and long, because if there was loads of writing the reader might not be bothered to read both the pages of writing.

The tone that the magazine is using when addressing the reader is an informed intelligent fan. This basically means that the reader can relate to what GZA is saying and also understand his language such as the slang he uses.

The style of the article matched the style of the front cover in many ways. For example most of the writing is written in the colour red, and if you see the article you will notice that the writing is also written in red. Another way in which the article relates to the front cover is because the front also features a very famous hip – hop artist

The article does sometimes demand prior knowledge when reading the article because sometimes there are certain slang words that are mentioned that people who are familiar with the Hip – Hop genre will be able to understand. Also GZA was part of a well – known crew Call Wu Tang Clang so if you know who this crew are then you will know much more about what GZA is talking about as he mentions the Wu Tang Clang several times.

In conclusion the article suits the front cover and magazine genre.
